Assessing Skills
Advantage National takes care of the ICT skills required so
you don’t have to. It also provides you with comprehensive details of exactly
what students can and cannot do.
This is a very effective way of assessing skills and our comprehensive data-tracking tools let you view data by year,
class or individual.
Using these web-based tools you can easily and quickly bring up a report that
shows the strengths and weaknesses of all of your students at a glance.
Assessing Understanding
The traditional methods of assessing understanding can be very time consuming.
If, for example, you are teaching a lesson covering spreadsheet functions, you
would need to construct a task involving generating lots of different
functions.
Using the automatic data-tracking facilities, combined with the engaging learning tasks you could get the
students to play a 20 minute game that teaches and assesses the syntax and
application of a variety of
spreadsheet functions and marks it all for you.
In combination with this and throughout the course, students are presented
with practice tasks which allow them to hone their skills on tasks that are
similar to those required for their coursework. These are completed in real
applications and marked by the teacher.
Marks can be entered into the system for students to see.
Assessing Coursework
Using the interactive coursework tasks not only reduces your planning time but it also reduces your marking time. Clearly explained tasks make sure that students know exactly what they have to do to achieve their desired grade so you spend less time handing work back to be modified.
As the students complete tasks they use interactive checklists that explain each
criterion in simple language to tick off their own progress. By doing this they are,
effectively recording their own progress. All you have to do is use the built in mark grids in the data-tracking tools.
Having students “pre-mark” their work like this reduces the amount of times you will have to return work for improvement because students have missed criteria. It also motivates students by giving them a sense of ownership over their achievements.
